Revive and Rebalance Sun-Kissed Skin

Longer, warmer days, air-dried hair, sunsets on the beach — summer months are blissfully carefree, but after a day of soaking up the sun (with SPF of course and these summer makeup tips), we must be sure to give our skin some extra TLC.  We’ve shared and praised the mind and body benefits of moderate daily sun exposure — better sleep, clearer skin, a stronger immune system and more — so while you’re reaping the rewards of Vitamin D, take the extra step in your routine to revive and rebalance that sun-kissed skin.

Daily sun exposure, while beneficial for our skin, can also take its toll if we overdo it.  It only takes 5-10 minutes of exposure — while wearing sunscreen — to natural sunlight to produce around 5,000 IU of vitamin D, which is enough for most people. So what do you do when you’ve gotten more than your daily dose?

There are plenty of products out there, and natural techniques that can help cool down and alleviate over-exposed skin.

let’s get to it

Relaxing Shower:

Rinse off the suns' rays and the sand between your toes with a relaxing shower.  Be mindful of the temperature — too cold or too hot will put your body’s temperature regulators into overdrive, but the right, mild temperature will gently steam your pores and cool you off.

Gently Exfoliate:

A day in the sun can leave your skin feeling a little sticky. While showering, treat yourself to a gentle scrub to ensure you’re removing all excess SPF, sea salt and perspiration. Gently exfoliate with Indie Lee’s Coconut Citrus Body Scrub — a skin-loving blend of Raw Cane Sugar, Coconut and Jojoba Oils. Your skin will be silky smooth and nourished with uplifting aromas of Lemongrass, Lemon Balm and Vanilla. (Use 2-3 times a week for body perfection!)

Quench your Skin:

Thirsty skin will be begging for a slathering of lotion after your shower.  Soak in the restorative power of ultra-soothing CV Skinlabs Body Repair Lotion.  It gently glides on to absorb quickly and provide deep-hydrating and nourishing benefits to fragile and sensitive skin, replenishing and soothing inflamed, dry skin. Leaves skin soft, looking luminous and healthy!

For an extra cool-down, grab a bottle CV Skinlabs Rescue + Relief Spray (store in the refrigerator for maximum cooling!), shake and spray over your face and body.   This cucumber-scented. water-thin spray provides instant hydrating, cooling and calming benefits.

Rehydrate your face with a Mask:

What’s better than a post-shower face mask? Tie-up your bathrobe and settle in with Botina’s Moisture-intensive treatment mask and relax as it refreshes and rejuvenates your skin. This face mask is packed with hyaluronic acid and vitamin B3 to nourish and hydrate. Our handcrafted rose extract and geranium hydrosol nurture healthy skin by healing and fighting inflammation. Start with freshly cleansed skin. Apply gel mask to entire face and décolleté. Let sit for 15 minutes as you lounge. Rinse clean.   It is the ultimate in deep hydration!

Mist your Face:

Post-face mask give your face a cooling mist.  Little Barn Apothecary’s Aloe and Rosewater Balancing Mist is a lightly hydrating organic face toner with skin balancing properties.  Formulated to balance pH post cleansing and as a precursor to face oils and serums. Replenishing, hydrating, and nourishing. Formulated for all skin types, this mist contains Turkish rose hydrosol, organic aloe vera, organic Nigerian hibiscus, and organic witch hazel. A unique combination that provides the skin with pH balance, antioxidants, and nutrients.

Pour the Oil:

Little Barn Apothecary’s Lavender and Frankincense Oil is a powerhouse of vitamins including A, D, E, copper, zinc, selenium, iodine, chromium, and chlorophyll.  This nutrient rich original oil was developed 10 years ago for face but has multiple uses as a body, bath, or hair. Loaded with high levels of omega-3, -6, and -9 essential fatty acids.

Pucker Up:

Aside from protecting your lips while out in the sun (why not add some color with Ilia Beauty’s Tinted Lip Conditioner?), you’re going to want to add extra moisture post-sun.  Indie Lee’s Lip Treat antioxidant-rich conditioning balm not only soothes and protects, it keeps lips feeling smooth and supple.
